  • How to feel better after abortion?

Everyone's experience with abortion is different. If you are still dealing with unresolved feelings, including anxiety or depression, after your abortion, AvailNYC's Personal Advocates are here to talk with you in a confidential, judgment-free space.

  • How to deal with abortion grief?

Following an abortion, you could experience a wave of various emotions, including grief, even if you don’t regret your decision at all. To process these, acknowledge your emotions and share them with somebody close to you. If you don't have a person like that, the Personal Advocates at AvailNYC can talk to you in free, confidential, one-on-one sessions, providing a compassionate listening ear, a wealth of resources and tools, and connections to a support group. • I'm having unresolved feelings about my abortion.

You’re not alone. It’s common to feel mixed emotions after an abortion, even if you feel confident about the decision you made. Many women in New York City experience unresolved, even conflicting, feelings after having an abortion. Sometimes these emotions may be present right away, or it may take some time – even years – for them to surface.

Grief after an abortion often isn’t acknowledged or discussed. That may make it more difficult for you to verbalize your feelings. A post-abortion support group can provide you with a safe and confidential setting where you can speak honestly and openly about your unresolved feelings with women in NYC who share similar experiences.

At Avail NYC we believe in the power of sharing your story and hearing those of others. It’s not always easy to talk about your abortion to friends and family members who might not understand the complexity of your decision. Sometimes you just need a confidential, non-judgmental place to process your thoughts. Our NYC-based client advocates are compassionate and unbiased and have their own abortion experiences to draw from.

When you're ready to talk, we're here to listen.

  • I want to talk to someone about my abortion.

Whatever you're feeling, we're here to listen.

There’s no right or wrong way to feel after your abortion. Sometimes you just want to process. While you may feel like you are all alone regarding your experience, there are people available to listen and help you find hope. Many women find that telling others about their abortion experiences and feelings brings a sense of closure and healing.

Avail NYC exists to be a safe place where you can do just that. Our client advocates will listen to you and put you first. Our goal is to provide you and other women in New York with unbiased support, a listening ear, and resources to help you own your story. We have no expectations or judgment; it is up to you to decide what to share and when.

  • I want to join an abortion support group.

You will find power in a supportive community.

An abortion experience is one of those things that most people don’t know how to discuss. The stigma, political debate, and misconceptions surrounding abortion can prevent many from reaching out and asking for support when needed most.

Participating in a compassionate and non-judgmental support group allows you to be vulnerable in a secure and safe setting where you can share your feelings without fear. In addition, these groups allow women to share their unique experiences, empowering them to reclaim their sense of self again.

If you are experiencing unresolved emotions after an abortion, Avail NYC can help. We offer free weekly meetings where you can seek resilience alongside a compassionate community. It’s a support group that cuts through the noise and prioritizes your journey. You’ll find other women of all ages and backgrounds who have their own abortion stories and can offer empathy, solidarity, and support. As a result, you’ll be able to recover your sense of well-being, allowing you to move forward with hope.

  • What if I don't regret my abortion?

It is completely normal to experience a variety of emotions after an abortion. Some report feeling relief, while others might feel something more along the lines of sadness, anger, or numbness. Your feelings may also shift in different seasons. Whatever you’re feeling, Avail can help you process your emotions in healthy ways. Whether you feel regret or not, we believe it’s empowering and helpful to share your story with another person who has been through an abortion and can empathize with your experience.

  • Is it too late to start my healing process?

It’s never too late to prioritize you. It’s okay to not feel ready to talk about your experience, even many months or years after an abortion. Ultimately, it’s your journey. If you are ready to talk about it, our Client Advocates are here to listen to your story with compassion and confidentiality.

  • Are the Client Advocates medical professionals?

They aren’t. They’re people like you who have experienced an abortion themselves. All of our Client Advocates are trained in reflective listening and after-abortion resilience and many have been working with Avail clients for several years. Avail is not a medical facility, but we can definitely help you connect with a medical professional or licensed therapist if that’s what you’re looking for.
